Tyranny, demagoguery, and absolute power are disrupted in Jean Anouilh’s modern adaptation of Antigone, written in 1940s France as a form of resistance against Nazi occupation. In an act of treason punishable by death, Antigone acts on her moral duty to bury her brother, defying the will of the ruthless King Creon. What transpires is a timeless exploration of when to accept authority in order to maintain the status quo and when to confront it, no matter the consequences.

  • Video: Chorus Interview ASL and Translation in Antigone
"I was really surprised to find how well this rich and poetic, very image-based classical text linked with the ASL translation." -Michael John Ciszewski
  • Review: Boston and Beyond "Greek tragedy has never been presented in a more engaging and palatable format!" -Susan Mulford
  • Review: New England Theatre Geek "I’m blown over by how perfectly it has been produced and performed. ... Each actor will win you over for their own unique reason. You will walk away with deeper insights in fate, feminism, and family." -Bishop C. Knight
  • Review: Rabbit Reviews Boston "It’s a wonderfully intoxicating environment to be stepping into. Most people tend to associate classical works with dusty libraries and dry academia. It’s nice to be reminded that in the right directorial hands, there’s a vital, thrilling world to be conjured with those texts." -Jamie Wilkinson
  • Review: Boston Arts Review "Flat Earth Theatre, always surprising us with savvy, potent productions, is presenting a singular, resonant ANTIGONE ... with one of the most gripping performances of the “daughter of kings” I’ve seen in ages." -Beverly Creasey
  • Review: Arts Fuse "Flat Earth Theatre’s staging of Antigone was filled with strong performances and provocative ideas: Vital supplied an exceptional Antigone, and many of Eagle’s directorial choices were inspired. " -Erik Nikander
  • EDGE, Boston: Best Boston Theater of 2018 "In some ways, "Antigone" was my favorite play of 2018, because of its timeless story of misrule and resistance, but also because it was a real-time, you-are-there lesson in the fluidity, adaptability, and invincibility of the theatrical spirit... which is also, I would argue, the human spirit." -Kilian Melloy
